  • Pre 1896

Doing a bit more research, I found an old fire map from 1896 which shows the building, without the rear additions. The map shows the building as a post office. I believe that a post office has been in Glouster since 1887, so the building may be at least that old. The hunt continues.

  • Here we go!

After some delays, I’m very happy to get some mortar samples. Working this weekend to try them out and see what works so I can order mortar and get to fixin! Before I can install the wood framing, I need to repair the brick that supports it. As soon as I get the brick repointed, I can get started on the framing.

  • 75 High Street Background

One of the fun parts about working on old buildings is trying to figure out their history. According to articles from The Glouster Press, the building was originally a post office and was sold to the New First National Bank on Tuesday September 11. 1906. The bank was commissioned (unsure if that’s the correct word for it) on November 2, 1906, by the Comptroller of Currency. Renovations were made to the building including a vault and a new front face. The First National Bank opened on Monday, January 14, 1907, and H. Shumate Dentist operated on the second story. I thought the building was constructed at the end of 1906 for the bank, but it seems it is older than that! Looks like I have more digging to do. If anybody has information on the building, I’d love to hear from you! Shoot me an email at ReclaimedRuinsLLC@gmail.com.

Working to demolish the second story framing as I will need to replace all of the second story floor joists. Not an easy process with all of the plaster and metal lath. I am attempting to salvage any of the wood trim to use in the renovated space.

  • 75 High Street Project

I’m excited to get started on Reclaimed Ruins first project: 75 High Street in Glouster, Ohio. The building is an abandoned First National Bank that was originally constructed circa 1907. Check back for updates as the project progresses!
